We have truly learned a great deal in STEM this year, and have gained priceless experience in the field of engineering from our work in class. For this final project step, our groups were able to use our experiences in a final project that was a true culmination of all that we have learned. For this project, my group decided to use our knowledge of engineering to create a better dating app. Using the prior research that we had conducted, we put together a mobile app, algorithm, and corresponding wearable. As stated in our project report, Love Bug is a cutting edge new dating app that uses the mathematical principle of geometric means to help individuals land dates. During dating, individuals are often afraid of rejection. Due to this fact, people will often miss out on certain opportunities. As such, our app will be able to help people gain the confidence to go on dates. We hope that our product will change the dating game and also challenge traditional dating norms. Additionally, since different people have different needs, our dynamic algorithm fits each individual’s specific needs. Our products’ three parts will help the user better navigate their dating life. Below you can find our presentation that explains the project specifications in more detail.

This has by far been my favorite project step of the year in STEM, as it let us show off all that we had learned throughout the year. I loved being able to apply what I have learned to a real world problem, and it truly showed me the importance of engineering in our world today. It was also nice that we were able to choose what we wanted to work on ourselves, and we were pretty much given free range on this project. We were also tasked with acting more mature than usual on this project.
Throughout this project, one of the things that I think I did well was managing my time. Because Mr. Tronconi had set checkpoints for our projects, we were basically forced to finish everything in a timely manner. Because of this, we worked more diligently than usual and had a good overall view of what had to be done. Especially during finals week, this time management came handy as it also gave me time to study for my other exams. In the future, in order to keep up this time management, I will set checkpoints for myself on the projects that I do so I can pace myself accordingly.
One other thing that I believe that I did well was being able to work with friends. In the past, I have often found myself being wildly off task when working with my buds because we veer off into talking about non academic things. While this did happen during the beginning of the project, we were able to fix it, due in part to the checkpoints, but we also wanted to make our work look good. Because of this, the project was very enjoyable and even more rewarding. To keep this up in the future, I plan on taking leadership to keep everyone on task while also staying relaxed and easygoing.
That being said, while I did do some good things on the project, there are definitely improvements that can be made. For one, I should get better at presenting in shorter periods of time. We created a lot of information on our topic throughout the work duration, yet we only had a total of a few minutes to present to each group. This made what we were saying feel rushed and I do not think we could get all of the information out correctly. In order to improve this in the future, I would like to practice my presentations more beforehand so that everything goes smoothly.
Another area of improvement is being able to use science concepts more in my work. While our group had a good overall idea of what we were doing and why, we could have gone a lot more in detail. We could have done deeper research on these areas, however, we were much more focused on the overarching concept. In order improve this in the future, I would spend even more time on the project so I could do both concept and detailed work.
